The National Catholic Register has a good article on responses to the latest dangerous trend sweeping many of our schools: the attempt to erase the difference between men and women, because they are taught that they are arbitrary and changeable.   We see this playing out in many spheres of life, from the threat to girls sports as boys pretending to be girls play on their teams, to far more serious threats such as states where children can take harmful treatments to "change" their gender without their parents' consent. This stands in direct contradiction to the truth that God created us male and female, in His image, as part of His divine plan for human love (see Genesis 1:27-28)

The article includes summaries of Pope Francis' teaching on the topic (and the Vatican document he promulgated) as well as an excellent pastoral letter on the topic by an American bishop, His Excellency Michael Burbidge of Arlington, Va.

New priests' ordination video

The Archdiocese has recently published a very good 3-minute video of the ordination of three new priests for service to the Archdiocese. You will hear snippets from Archbishop's Schnurr homily and see a few scenes from that ordination Mass.  There are many powerful symbols in that ordination ceremony, including the men about to be ordained priests lying prostrate (on the ground, face down) before the altar, symbolizing that they are dying to themselves as they become "another Christ." In the photo above, after the bishop consecrates the men with prayer and laying on of hands, all of the other priests concelebrating the Mass also lay hands on them, showing that they now share in the one priesthood of Jesus Christ, the great High Priest. Confession availability (drive-up confessions) [UPDATED]

UPDATED 3/31/20.  See new entry for St. Mary's confession time. OK.  So my makeshift confessional won't look quite as elegant as the confessional booth in this photo, but I have set up a temporary outdoor confession station at St. Peter's, in the picnic shelter behind the church. I will be posting more hours here on this blog and also posting a sign on the shelter posts as I add hours over the next few days.  The first confession hour will be Monday, 3/30, from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m.  Please spread the word.  If there are still penitents waiting at 6:00, I will wait too. I am also giving thought to when and how I can hear confessions at St. Mary's.  Will keep you posted on that. Please note that the church allows confessions outdoors in these unusual circumstances, so the sacrament will be valid even though not offered in church.
