Rose and a Rosary Campaign

Under our current national political leadership, we have recently seen very aggressive movements to promote abortion and involve you in it.  For example, Joseph Biden has just reversed former President Trump's prohibition  against providing money to abortion agencies such as Planned Parenthood through the federal Title X health care act.  (As an aside, this has been one of the most vile tactics of the pro abortion forces, to repeat the lie that the destruction of an innocent child is "health care.").  The net effect is that all federal taxpayers will now be paying to fund abortions.  Planned Parenthood argues that the money can't directly fund the abortion itself - just other areas of their operations.  But that is sleight of hand since money is "fungible."  That means, as any businessman or -woman knows, that money can be transferred from one account to another, so that providing federal money to Planned Parenthood at all will in fact support the taki...

Prevent taxpayer funding of abortion - U.S. Bishops

Image
As I have written about earlier, the current President and Congress are moving quickly to force taxpayer funding of the terrible evil of abortion. This letter from the U.S. Conference of Bishops (below) encourages all the faithful to act quickly to stop this and to protect innocent lives and our religious liberty.  Please make sure your voice is heard! ================================================ Congress pushes taxpayer-funded abortion Congress is moving forward on paying for abortion with your tax dollars!  Babies and their moms urgently need your help. Congress is advancing appropriations bill this week that would essentially  force taxpayer dollars to pay for abortions  in D.C., through foreign assistance, and in federal employee health plans. And this is just the start. Easily send a quick, pre-written email by clicking the button below.  Your members of Congress need to hear from you  before they go any further . Congress lecturing the bishops on the faith?

Image
We live in interesting times. In response to the decision by the U.S. Bishops at a recent virtual meeting to discuss questions including the reception of Communion by those who promote grave evils such as abortion, some 60 baptized Catholic U.S. Congressmen and -women (all of whom publicly support abortion) have written an open letter demanding that they be able to receive Holy Communion despite (and even in some cases, astonishingly, because of ) their positions which contradict those of the Church.   One of these Congressmen even dared his bishop not to allow him to receive Communion.  That in itself shows that he has no understanding of the  Eucharist as a gift, or the authority of the Church, but that's a post for another day. In the First Things magazine, a national magazine devoted to discussing issues of religion and culture, San Francisco Archbishop Salvatore Cordileone has written an open letter response .    It is quite long, but well wor...

Prevent taxpayer funding of abortion

Image
The Unites States Bishops' Conference is sponsoring a webinar on how citizens can act to prevent the federal government from forcing them to fund abortion with their tax dollars.   This is a real threat as the majority political party has strongly advocated for the removal of the Hyde Amendment, a safeguard against this coercion. The webinar runs next Wednesday the 12th at 2:00 p.m.  Sign up here.

The Party Platforms on the life issues

Image
As national and some election results are still being sorted out, there are many closely divided governing bodies.  This division will be important in the ongoing struggle of Christian citizens to work to protect innocent life in the womb. Since we have a mostly two-party system of governance, it is important to understand the underlying philosophy of the parties on the right to life and the question of requiring citizens to pay for the destruction of life. Here are the links to the party platforms (statements of philosophy), with some commentary from a pro-life website. Faithful Citizenship

Image
Throughout the year, but especially during election times, Catholics ask themselves, "How can I be a faith-filled citizen and a faithful citizen."  To help answer that question, our United States college of Catholic bishops (USCCB) has recently published a paper regarding principles that Catholic should use in deciding how to vote for candidates and issues before them. It is a complex topic, so I am posting the full document here and also will publish  some excerpts from it later.  Feel free to check back later. There is also a resource page regarding this topic available.
