Prayer and Action for the Unbon

On Friday, January 22nd, the U.S. Bishops have asked all Catholics to observe a special day of prayer and fasting for protection of unborn life.

That is the 48th anniversary of the gravely unjust U.S. Supreme Court decision Roe v. Wade, which prevented the States from legally protecting innocent life in the womb. 

There is a special Mass for this intention at St. Peter at 8:30 a.m.   Please join us.

There are many additional good ways to observe this day.

I recommend any of the activities promoted by Cincinnati Right to Life.

The U.S. Bishops link a lot of good information about this special day on their website, including a campaign to start a novena (nine days of continuous prayer, from January 21-29th).  You can sign up for that novena here.

  Last year brought our nation countless acts of destruction and violence,with many people harmed and killed in riots and protests resulting from the death of George Floyd and related activism.  This year is starting out no better, as political activists have violently broken into the nation's Capitol building today in an apparent protest of vote counting for the recent presidential election.   There are reports now of one woman shot and at least injured in that melee.  Please pray to Our Lady, Queen of Peace, that as a nation we will be able to resolve our deep political divisions without resorting to violence and the destruction of life.

New priests' ordination video

The Archdiocese has recently published a very good 3-minute video of the ordination of three new priests for service to the Archdiocese. You will hear snippets from Archbishop's Schnurr homily and see a few scenes from that ordination Mass.  There are many powerful symbols in that ordination ceremony, including the men about to be ordained priests lying prostrate (on the ground, face down) before the altar, symbolizing that they are dying to themselves as they become "another Christ." In the photo above, after the bishop consecrates the men with prayer and laying on of hands, all of the other priests concelebrating the Mass also lay hands on them, showing that they now share in the one priesthood of Jesus Christ, the great High Priest. Confession availability (drive-up confessions) [UPDATED]

UPDATED 3/31/20.  See new entry for St. Mary's confession time. OK.  So my makeshift confessional won't look quite as elegant as the confessional booth in this photo, but I have set up a temporary outdoor confession station at St. Peter's, in the picnic shelter behind the church. I will be posting more hours here on this blog and also posting a sign on the shelter posts as I add hours over the next few days.  The first confession hour will be Monday, 3/30, from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m.  Please spread the word.  If there are still penitents waiting at 6:00, I will wait too. I am also giving thought to when and how I can hear confessions at St. Mary's.  Will keep you posted on that. Please note that the church allows confessions outdoors in these unusual circumstances, so the sacrament will be valid even though not offered in church.
