Drive up confessions at St. Mary's



I will be offering drive-up confessions at St. Mary's in Bethel tomorrow, Wed., April 1st, from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.    (This is for real, not an April Fools).   If anyone is still waiting at 7:30 I'll stay as long as needed.

Here is how I would like this to work:

I will be at the end of the front porch of the parish office, facing the school next door and behind a folding screen (so confessions can remain anonymous).   When you come, please just come up to the folding screen and announce yourself.

You can park nearby.  If you see others at the confessional, please remain  in your car  some distance away to preserve the privacy of the other penitents.

Please note that you will have to speak a little louder than usual, due to social distance I need to maintain.

If you are hard of hearing, please call the parish office to make arrangements.  Also, there is one small step to get up to the porch from the parking lot.  For anyone who is handicapped, again please contact the office for alternate arrangements.

I am working on my Holy Week confession schedule for St. Peter and St. Mary and will try to post that soon.

We will have examination of conscience sheets with the act of contrition printed out and available at the confession site.  Here is one online to help you prepare at home.

The Archdiocese has recently published a very good 3-minute video of the ordination of three new priests for service to the Archdiocese. You will hear snippets from Archbishop's Schnurr homily and see a few scenes from that ordination Mass.  There are many powerful symbols in that ordination ceremony, including the men about to be ordained priests lying prostrate (on the ground, face down) before the altar, symbolizing that they are dying to themselves as they become "another Christ." Our Lady Queen of Peace, pray for us!

  Last year brought our nation countless acts of destruction and violence,with many people harmed and killed in riots and protests resulting from the death of George Floyd and related activism.  This year is starting out no better, as political activists have violently broken into the nation's Capitol building today in an apparent protest of vote counting for the recent presidential election.   There are reports now of one woman shot and at least injured in that melee.  Please pray to Our Lady, Queen of Peace, that as a nation we will be able to resolve our deep political divisions without resorting to violence and the destruction of life.
