Praying the Steps at Immacula



Many of you are familiar with the 160+ year old custom of  praying the steps at Immaculata in Mt. Adams.  This is one of the oldest and most beautiful Catholic customs in our region.

Holy Cross-Immaculata parish had to cancel that this Good Friday due to the current epidemic.   They are hoping to reschedule it for one of the Marian feast days later this year.

I would love to get a group from our parishes to do that together.

New priests' ordination video

The Archdiocese has recently published a very good 3-minute video of the ordination of three new priests for service to the Archdiocese. You will hear snippets from Archbishop's Schnurr homily and see a few scenes from that ordination Mass.  There are many powerful symbols in that ordination ceremony, including the men about to be ordained priests lying prostrate (on the ground, face down) before the altar, symbolizing that they are dying to themselves as they become "another Christ." In the photo above, after the bishop consecrates the men with prayer and laying on of hands, all of the other priests concelebrating the Mass also lay hands on them, showing that they now share in the one priesthood of Jesus Christ, the great High Priest. Ohio Heartbeat Law take immediate effect

  According to this recent news story , Ohio's "heartbeat bill" might take immediate effect in our state.  This was signed into law in 2019 by Gov. DeWine, in anticipation of the overturning of Roe v. Wade, which happened yesterday.  It would ban nearly all abortions once the baby's heartbeat can be detected. That is typically at about 6 weeks gestation.  This could save many infant lives in our state.  The pro-abortion forces are already preparing legal challenges to block it, so please pray that the law will stand without interruption. We are certainly in for tumultuous times as the opportunity to defend life opens up again. Our Lady of Guadalupe, patroness of the unborn, pray for us!

Confession availability (drive-up confessions) [UPDATED]

UPDATED 3/31/20.  See new entry for St. Mary's confession time. OK.  So my makeshift confessional won't look quite as elegant as the confessional booth in this photo, but I have set up a temporary outdoor confession station at St. Peter's, in the picnic shelter behind the church. I will be posting more hours here on this blog and also posting a sign on the shelter posts as I add hours over the next few days.  The first confession hour will be Monday, 3/30, from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m.  Please spread the word.  If there are still penitents waiting at 6:00, I will wait too. I am also giving thought to when and how I can hear confessions at St. Mary's.  Will keep you posted on that. Please note that the church allows confessions outdoors in these unusual circumstances, so the sacrament will be valid even though not offered in church.
